State Senator and 2009 gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds spoke to a packed dining room at Don Pedro's Restaurant in Central Garage on March 11 as the guest of the King William Democratic Committee. The audience erupted in applause several times as Senator Deeds described his vision for Virginia's future, saying "We cannot compete for low wage jobs. We must compete for smart jobs." Citing the success that North Carolina has had with pharmaceutical jobs growth because of its Research Triangle Park, he pledged to work for an energy research park in Virginia. He said that Virginia's higher education is better than North Carolina's and will be able to provide the world with innovative ways to produce energy.
As Senator of Virginia's 25th District, Creigh Deeds authored the well-known Megan's Law, sponsored the Amber Alert Program, and wrote an effective state law against homegrown methamphetamine laboratories. He lost a close race for Attorney General in 2007, and he hopes to be our next governor. Appearing along with him at the King William event were Mr. Cory Medina of the Deeds gubernatorial campaign and Mr. Shawn O'Donnell of Fredericksburg, who who was the Democratic candidate for the First Congressional District in 2006.
The King and Queen Democratic Committee, which also participated in the enthusiastic gathering, will host the King William Democratic Committee in a joint meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at the Walkerton Fire House at Masonic Lane 2917 Walkerton Landing Road. New members are alway welcome to attend and to share their ideas.
